In 1913, the two young engineers pictured above, Charles Wallace and Martin Tiernan, invented a device for disinfecting water supplies with chlorine gas.  The first commercial device is pictured above.  Named the "chlorinator," this device has been credited with the elimination of waterbourne diseases all too common in the early 1900's.  Recognizing the success, LIFE Magazine in 1997 declared water chlorination and filtration "probably the most significant public health advancement of the millennium."

The Evoqua legacy in chlorination began 100 years ago with one of the most significant public health advancements of the millennium - the 1913 Wallace & Tiernan installation of the first chlorinator in a public drinking water system.

Evoqua gas feed and residual monitoring technologies continue to set the benchmark for safe and reliable drinking water purification. V2000™ and V10K™ chlorinators, ammoniators and sulfonators from Evoqua are designed with an all-vacuum operation principal, and with V-notch flow technology that provides a wide range of control and high repeatability. Evoqua MFC analyzers and controllers are integral to the chlorination system and uniquely provide for the selection of up to four distinct disinfection measurements and the simultaneous control of two measures. This ensures that water treatment facilities can meet the latest regulatory requirements for disinfectants and disinfection by-products (D/DBP).

V2000 Gas Feed Chlorinators

The V2000™ gas feed chlorinator is designed to use the safe all-vacuum operating principal with the accurate and reliable V-notch gas flow control technology providing a wide range of adjustment with high repeatability. The V2000 gas feed chlorinator is designed with a minimum number of components translating into lower maintenance costs, and a 30% reduction in lifecycle costs.

It is available as floor or wall mounted units with respective maximum capacities of 10,000 PPD and 3,000 PPD. Gas feed is controlled manually or automatically via an electric positioner. The V2000 can feed a variety of water treatment gases, including chlorine, ammonia, sulphur dioxide and carbon dioxide. In addition, the V2000 chlorinator allows for easy access to components for routine preventative maintenance minimizing operation down time.

OSEC® B-Pak On-Site Electrolytic Hypochlorite Generation System

The OSEC® B-Pak system is a fully automated, pre-packaged on-site hypochlorite system designed for fast and economical installation, safe operation and easy maintenance. It is now available in capacities from 65 to 260 lb/day, as well as higher capacity units up to 1500 lbs of equivalent chlorine per day. The OSEC B-Pak system generates a ≥ 0.8% sodium hypochlorite solution through the electrolysis of brine, consuming only water, salt and electricity. By producing hypochlorite on-site and on-demand, the system eliminates concerns associated with transportation and storage of liquefied chlorine gas or commercial sodium hypochlorite solutions, and makes it ideal for any application requiring chlorination.

Wallace & Tiernan® MFC Analyzers and Controllers

Wallace & Tiernan® MFC Analyzers and Controllers are integral to chlorination systems and uniquely provide for the selection of up to four distinct disinfection measurements and the simultaneous control of two measures to maintain the desired level of disinfection and water quality.

Coupled with the DEPOLOX® 5 bare electrode chlorine measurement module, the system can measure an additional three measurements ensuring that your disinfection application is optimized to minimize over and under feeds of disinfectant reducing DBP for chlorination applications. The DEPOLOX 5 module design does not require reagent chemicals or the costly replacement of the membrane cap, lowering life cycle costs when compared to alternative measurement devices. The bare electrode technology also boasts a response time up to 90% of an actual chlorine concentration change in the treated water in less than 30 seconds.

Water Champ® FX Induction System

The Water Champ® FX Chemical Induction System has set the benchmark in chemical feed and disinfection with its innovative design and versatile applications for chlorination, dechlorination, chloramines, pH adjustment and rapid mix. The system provides superior mixing intensity maximizing chemical reaction while using less energy. Independent third party testing has proven that a Water Champ system can provide up to 40% better power to flow-rate ratios compared to other induction mixers or conventional methods.

Unlike traditional technologies, the Water Champ employs a direct vacuum induction process thereby eliminating the need for carrier / makeup water resulting in greater operational efficiency and safety at greatly reduced life cycle costs.

Disinfection by-product solutions

AquaCarb® CX Series Carbons for DBP Treatment

AquaCarb® CX carbon is a coconut shell-based activated carbon that includes both a high micropore and mesopore volume making this an excellent alternative to coal-based activated carbon for surface water treatment.

AquaCarb CX carbon removes volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), allows compliance with disinfection by-product (DBP) regulations, and improves the taste and odor of treated water. The unique carbon achieves lower lifecycle costs, and has an extended throughput capacity before reaching contaminant breakthrough. Laboratory studies, onsite pilot testing, and full-scale demonstrations have proven that AquaCarb CX carbon can achieve a 30-50% longer bed life versus coal-based carbon for many applications.

In addition, the AquaCarb CX carbon can be reactivated, minimizing waste by reusing spent carbon providing a cost-effective alternative as well as potable reactivation meeting ANSI/NSF Standard 61. Furthermore, it has been found that with subsequent reactivation cycles, the pore structure of AquaCarb® CX carbon is maintained and even improved, leading to equal or better performance in many treatment applications.

Millennium III™ Chlorine Dioxide Generator

Chlorine dioxide is a quintessential disinfectant and oxidant useful in enhancing water treatment processes to achieve regulatory compliance and DBP standards. Evoqua excels in providing CLO2 applications, analytical, DBP compliance and engineering support, along with on-site installation assistance, start-up, training and preventative maintenance services.
