Xcel Energy Takes Environmental Stewardship to the Next Level With Evoqua's Fish Protection Systems

modified Ristroph fish protection intake systems from Evoqua Water Technologies at Xcel Energy’s Black Dog generating facility located in Burnsville, MN. The new equipment is expected to significantly increase biodiversity in the region through the protection of fish species and seasonal larvae.
Upon the completion of the installation, which is expected to be operational in 2016, Xcel Energy is believed to be among only a handful of facilities in the country meeting impinged fish protection requirements of the U.S. EPA’s new regulations implementing Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act, which establishes requirements for cooling water intake structures to minimize adverse environmental impacts utilizing Best Technology Available (BTA). The requirement impacts 1,065 existing facilities across the U.S., including 544 power plants.

Evoqua to Double Manufacturing Capacity and R&D Footprint
March 5, 2015 - Evoqua Water Technologies today announced it will double the capacity to produce its leading range of water treatment products at one of its key production facilities in the United States to meet the growing global demand for its products and services.
Evoqua has broken ground on building a new production facility in Tewksbury, Mass., to replace its existing manufacturing in nearby Lowell, Mass. The Company’s R&D center in Lowell will be expanded into the vacated manufacturing space in order to accelerate commercialization of many of the new technologies under development by the Company. The new R&D capabilities will include pilot production for new products prior to being placed into full manufacturing around the world.
